MUSEUM OF HEART

Preserving Diggins Village History

The name, Museum of Heart, was derived by Ms. Mary Cunningham, former Postmistress, who around 2006-2007 began honoring those in the area that had breast cancer or other forms of cancer. There were several who donated baskets to be sold, quilts to be auctioned, baked goods, or other items to be used for a raffle. This Museum, located in the area formerly housed by City Hall currently holds over 200 items and artifacts relative to the Village of Diggins, and they are the sole property of the Village of Diggins. The project began in 2022 with Dr. David L. Bowers, Park Board President making an appeal to any who would wish to donate items for the Museum of Heart.

Items today include: a large collection of Walton Family materials; a large collection of church related items from the 3 churches that helped to establish the Village; Railroad artifacts; Tickets and a model of the vehicle used by the patrolman of the Village-Joe Phillips; Princess Diana collection; John F. and Jackie Kennedy collection; Historical books; templates from the quilters of the Lutheran Church Aid Society (founded in 1922); Founders Day materials complete with the costume worn by Dave Bowers as Uncle Sam during the 1987 event in which Sam and Bud Walton attended; School objects; various pictures of the Bank of Diggins and checks, along with the embossed stamp of the Bank of Diggins; Rudolph Store pictures, and so many more items. The desire for this project is that it will continue to expand and provide many future memories for those who visit. The Museum is open for perusal upon request and on Founders Day. If you would like to contribute an artifact or make a donation to the Museum, please contact Dr. David L. Bowers, Park Board President.
