SCHROEDER PAVILION-is located on the southwest side of the Community Park near Rudolph Street. This pavilion was dedicated at the 2025 Founders Day Celebration  to honor David and Teresa Schroeder  as appreciation from the Village of Diggins for their monetary support and donation through the years. David was raised west of the Village of Diggins and his parents, were Melvin and Janet Schroeder.  Melvin was a member of the Armed Forces and was in the Marine Corp from 1950 – 1952 and served in the Korean Conflict  and was honorably discharged in 1952. He passed in 2005 at the age of 76 and Janet passed in 2011 at the age of 79. Their descendants include 5 children: Greg (deceased), David, Julie, Paula and Brian. They have 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

David attended the Diggins one-room schoolhouse from grades 1-3 until the school was closed upon consolidation with Seymour School system. He is a 1974 graduate of Seymour High School where he served as Vice-President of his Senior Class. Upon graduation, he left for college in pursuit of his dreams. He met his wife Teresa while they were both attending college and they married in 1978. He received his Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration in 1980 from Drury College and then obtained his Juris Doctorate Law Degree in 1983 from the University of Tulsa-College of Law. He was admitted to the Missouri Bar later that same year.

Early in his career, David was the Attorney for the Village of Diggins where he helped to establish many precedents for the Village and worked directly with the Board to establish new ordinances and guidelines. In 2022  after over 40 years of law practice, David went into semi-retirement and today spends his time hunting, fishing and enjoying his family.

The Schroeder’s have 2 sons and 2 grandchildren and reside in Fair Grove, Missouri.

Blessing Box  (Food Pantry): This new venture was designed, funded and set up by the James Gagne family prior to the 2025 Founders Day Celebration, and is sponsored by Vaughn Gagne as his Eagle Scout project. The concept basis for the project is that anyone needing nonperishable items, whether canned goods, baby formula, laundry detergents, or other food items, could come and pick the items up in anonymity as needed or as stated on the outside of the free-standing box- “Leave what you can-Take what you need.” Anyone wishing to drop off items for the Blessings Box can do so by leaving the items at the Village of Diggins City Hall.

Little Free Library – The Village of Diggins Little Free Library was an endeavor started by Nicole Newman. Nicole applied for and was awarded a grant by the Little Free Library Association and was given the approval to place the library in the Village Park so that everyone passing by could enjoy it. She, along with her three children (Elizabeth, Avery and Cameron) maintain and care for the library. They, along with the help of those who visit the library, ensure that it is always stocked with books for young and old alike. After the successful launch of the main section the community helped fund through donations the sidecar which houses books for children. The Village of Diggins Little Free Library also has its very own Facebook page so when you visit this special place make sure you scan the QR code on the window and follow their adventure. You never know what treasures you may find.
